My story begins in Concord, North Carolina. I traveled the world and lived in various parts of the country in search of life changing experiences and yearning to delve into healthcare and wellbeing that meets the needs of the whole person. After my adventures, I settled in the mountains of Asheville, NC to grow some roots and learn from world-renowned experts in Chinese Medicine.
I received my Masters in Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine from Daoist Traditions College of Chinese Medical Arts in May of 2015. While attending Daoist Traditions, I studied extensively with Jeffery Yuen, 88th generation Daoist Priest. My time with him resulted in a deep understanding of Classical Chinese Medicine and how to utilize the five channel systems of the human body.
My post graduate studies include women's health with Dr. Robin "Saraswati" Marcus, OMD of Nourishing Life Center, Chinese herbal studies with Sharon Weizenbaum of White Pine Institute, 100hr Certificate of Advanced Integrative Acupuncture from York University in Toronto, CA, NeuroAcupuncture with Dr. Poeny Chang Ph.D R.Ac, Sports Acupuncture Medicine with Dr. Whitfield Reeves, OMD, and Gua Sha expert Dr. Arya Nielsen, PhD L.Ac.
I have worked with hundreds of patients to help them sleep soundly, improve digestion, calm anxiety, meet their health goals, and move without pain - all in order to cultivate more energy and wellbeing. I treat people of all seasons from children to athletes to geriatric patients. For many of my acupuncture patients, I’m the gateway to their acupuncture and Chinese medicine journey.
While traveling across the world, I received my yoga instructor training in India. I have been practicing yoga since 2006 and I am a trained yoga teacher in Ashtanga, Baptiste, Suspension Yoga and certified in Dao Flow Yoga for Women's Health.
When I am not treating patients I enjoy traveling the world, mastering aerial silks, and looking for new experiences and adventures.
Janelle is a licensed acupuncturist and herbalist. She received her Masters in Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine from Daoist Traditions College of Chinese Medical Arts in Asheville, NC in May 2017.
Janelle became interested in Chinese medicine after sustaining a severe injury while traveling through South America. She relied on the wisdom of native medicine in the absence of accessible healthcare facilities. She recovered soon after and began her studies in alternative medicines beginning with Ayurvedic medicine and yoga and later, Chinese medicine. She dedicated her medical studies to classical Chinese medicine given the extensive knowledge and comprehensive theory put forth.
Her practice emphasizes the importance of patient participation throughout the healing process. Janelle’s specialties include geriatrics, digestive issues, and emotional imbalances. She utilizes adjunct techniques, food therapy, medical qi gong, and herbal medicine.
Janelle has spent most of her life by the ocean and enjoys traveling in search of surf and coral reefs. When Janelle is not treating patients, you can find her teaching Restorative Flow Yoga at Uptown Yoga Loft in Uptown Shelby.
